The days drag on for miles on end
My life is slipping by

Pity you had to catch that train

I look around the barren land
The only colour here is black
The only whispers are of the wind
The only sight is the darkness
The only emotion is sadness.
The light that lit up the empty world
Left without a sound
She hasn't returned yet
We try to keep up our normal routine
But we know there's something missing.
I walk the path that destiny carved
Passing the ones I know
They used to make the light brighter
But now they've fallen into mourning
This light was the glue that held us together.
I'll try to keep my head up
Try to lighten the darkness
But I know no matter what I do
My light will flicker and die
It's not our everlasting light.
If the light would only fly back
Brighten this incessant night
Then the land can flourish
With all the colours of spring
Once again.
The ones that are in mourning
Will become like the cheery canary's song
Happiness is infectious
So can the light come back
And grant it to us?
Who knows, she might be off
Lighting up another's life
Or maybe she was called back to heaven
Where God had sent her from
A light like that could not have come from anywhere else.
We'll remain in a barren land
Until the light returns
God, send it down from the heavens
And allow the old paradise
